AMHE-NJ Fall General Assembly, October 2nd, 2013
The New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE-NJ), has organized its first General Assembly/Physician Conference of the year 2013-2014 on Saturday the 2nd of October. We thank everyone who came and participated at the event.
The conference took place in a cozy room at the restaurant The Castle in Roselle Park, NJ; it was full to capacity and unfortunately many guests had to be turned away. The broad spectrum enthusiasm to this event attests the level of our community activism. A group of 60 including physicians, nurses, healthcare practitioners and volunteers attended. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food delicious, and the conversations interesting.
The topic "Care to the Transgender and the Homosexual" was discussed with insight and competence by Drs. Anita Vaughn (HIV) and Yveline Abellard (Psychiatry). A transgender patient was also part of the panel and shared her experience and emotions before and after the sex change. This topic so far flouted by mainstream academics has risen to the forefront of medical discussions in parallel to recent legal advances regarding homosexuality in the US. Our knowledge has therefore been deficient in this issue. This session was insightful at multiple levels, it helped the audience understand the homosexual better and adjust its approach to the transgender.
We warmly thank our sponsors Northeast Financial and Travel-O-Ganza, Inc for their generous contribution toward the success of this event.
Our next public activity will be the annual Happy New Year Celebration on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the same restaurant. Our next General Assembly/Physician Dinner Conference will be held in Spring around April-May, 2014.
Together, we make a difference...
